State Officials Evaluate Snow Damage from the Air Today
SANTA FE, NM- State experts from the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management are in the air and on the ground in McKinley, Rio Arriba and Cibola Counties today getting an up-close look at the snow accumulations and damage from the three storms that hit New Mexico last week. Emergency Management officers trained in emergency response, emergency preparedness, and disaster recovery, in cooperation with local officials are in the process of determining what needs to be done and preparing for the next storm that is expected to arrive tomorrow.

NM Emergency Management Personnel Visit Heavy Snow Areas for Situational Awareness
SANTA FE- The Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management today dispatched personnel to Western and Northern New Mexico for a situational assessment of damage and needs due to last week’s heavy snow fall. Counties to be visited are Cibola, McKinley and Rio Arriba.

Over the weekend, the department coordinated with those counties, the Navajo Nation and the State of Arizona on the effects of the snow that in some areas is as high as six feet. Now that most primary roads are clear, emergency management is concerned that excess snow and ice accumulations on flat roofed buildings will cause further damage.

NM Emergency Operations Center Monitoring Winter Storm Impact
SANTA FE, NM- Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management personnel are working this weekend to monitor and assess the impact and effects of New Mexico’s latest winter storm.

The State Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is in contact with Emergency Managers in the areas hit hardest, including the Navajo Nation, the State of Arizona and working with the NM Department of Transportation to determine needs and assets.

NM Department of Health Announces Guidelines for First Phase of Providing H1N1 Vaccine
Revised Guidelines will Target People Most at Risk for Serious Complications
(Las Cruces) – The New Mexico Department of Health announced today revised guidelines for priority groups that should receive the first doses of vaccine to protect against H1N1 influenza. The priority groups have been refined for first phase of vaccinations because New Mexico will receive the vaccine in stages and will concentrate on the people most at risk for serious illness from H1N1 influenza. Department of Health Reports Two More Probable Swine Flu Cases
(Santa Fe) The New Mexico Department of Health reported today that it is sending two more probable cases of swine flu to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for confirmatory testing. The new samples are from a 14-year-old female and 15-year-old male both from Socorro County.
